attention은 주의, 주목, 관심을 뜻하는 명사입니다. 군대에서 차렷자세를 뜻하기도 합니다. 우편물이나 이메일을 쓸 때에는 for the attention of의 줄임말로서 ATTN을 사용합니다. 서신을 받는 해당 상대방의 이름(또는 회사, 팀, 그룹) 앞에 Attn을 붙여 씁니다.

3. 받는 사람 → Attn 형태로 사용 (for the attention of somebody의 줄임)

Attn 뒤에 콜론(:)을 붙이고 수신자(또는 팀, 그룹, 회사)를 적어주면 됩니다. 이렇게 Attn으로 받는 사람을 지칭하여 서신이나 우편, 화물, 인보이스(invoice)가 올바른 상대방에게 도달하게 하려는 목적으로 사용합니다. 대문자 ATTN이라고 써서 좀 더 이목을 집중하게 할 수도 있습니다.

 

Attn: Human Resources → 인사팀에게 보내는 것일 때

Attn: John Smith → 존 스미스에게 보내는 것일 때
